Every food culture needs someone to carry it. Whether it’s someone who keeps the household fed when the cupboards are empty. Someone who marries into the family, but never left the soil. Or someone who wasn’t born into the story, but still carries it forward. Three different roads that lead to the same table. Tap in to meet them.

CHERYL
Age: 44
Birthday: 12 August 1982
Birthplace: A small farm outside of Melkbos,
Western Cape
Raised on the farm, Cheryl studied viticulture at Stellenbosch and now runs her own organic permaculture garden in Constantia. From a lifetime spent hunting and harvesting, she chose to go vegetarian out of deep respect for the land, and believes the best ingredient in any dish is knowing exactly where it came from. Off the land, she's just as at home in the polished circles of Constantia, chairing half the neighbourhood's garden and social clubs, hosting dinners where half the table came from her own garden that morning, and pouring a wine she actually understands from vine to glass.
MA RUTH
Age: 64
Birthday: October 14, 1962
Birthplace: Cape Town, Western Cape,
South Africa
Long before she was "Ma Ruth" to half the neighbourhood, she was just a girl in Kalk Bay, listening to her mother grind spice against stone before the sun was even up. She married young, raised a son, buried a husband, and somewhere along the way became the person people call when they need feeding or fixing. She still hums Moravian hymns while she kneads. Still tastes salt with the back of her hand instead of a spoon, because some things you don't measure, you just know.
ZIAH
Age: 23
Birthday: March 21, 2003
Birthplace: Lavender Hill, Cape Flats,
South Africa
Ziah carries both resilience and optimism wherever she goes. Curious, creative and fiercely proud of where she comes from, Ziah believes every meal is another way to share Cape Town's story with the world. Raised on Cape Town's rich traditions but shaped by a modern world, Ziah is the bridge between tradition and tomorrow, proving that home isn't something you leave behind, it's something you take with you no matter the area code.
